With the Monroe Hornets out of the playoff picture this season, monroehorntesfootball.com is committed to bringing you updates and scores from all the action from this year’s OHSAA tournament.
Some area teams with high hopes this year were shocked in round one as Middletown and Carlisle; both unbeaten during the regular season were upset. Middletown was the number one seed in division 1 region 4 and were upset by top QB recruit Braxton Miller’s (7-3) Wayne Warriors by the score of 21-0. Wayne advances to play (9-2) Centerville.
Another undefeated team from the area Carlisle came in as the fourth seed and fell to the fifth seed (9-1) Kenton Wildcats and their sensational QB Maty Mauk who threw for over 500 yards and 7 TD’s. The Wildcats advance to take on another undefeated team in (11-0) Clinton Massie.
In division 1 region 4 (8-2) Centerville knocked off (7-3) Moeller 27-17. Colerain ran its record to a perfect 11-0 by pounding (7-3) Hamilton who had played the Cards to their closest score of the season earlier in the year losing 17-14 during week 7. The Cardinals dominated the rematch as QB Tyler Williams rushed for 196 yards helping Colerain secure its 58th straight home victory 42-14. Colerain advances to round 2 to face rival St. Xavier. St. Xavier (5-4) defeated (9-1) La Salle 20-14.
In division 2 region 8 (9-1) Winton Woods continued to show its dominance by beating (7-3) Dayton Carroll 40-21. Winton Woods is looking for consecutive State Championships as they defend their 2009 Title.
(8-2) Trotwood Madison continues on to play Winton Woods after beating (5-5) Harrison 39-15.
(9-1) Kings defeated (7-3) Tecumseh 55-30 in a high scoring affair. Kings will play Mount Healthy as they beat (9-1) Turpin in a tough battle 26-17.
In division 3 region 12 undefeated Eaton rolled on upending (9-1) Jackson 26-7. Eaton held its opponents to single digit points for the 10th time this season having allowed only 68 points during the regular season. Eaton will take on (9-1) Springfield Shawnee who advanced by walloping (8-2) Washington C.H. 56-20.
(8-2) McNicholas shutout (7-3) Dayton Dunbar 28-0 and will face (7-3) Roger Bacon.
Roger Bacon squeaked by a tough (9-1) Wyoming team 26-21.
Division 4 region 16 scores:
(10-0) Clinton Massie 21 (7-3) Taft 20 – OT
(9-1) Kenton 62 (10-0) Carlisle 20
(9-1) Jonathan Alder 45 (8-2) Waynseville 23
(8-2) Kettering Alter 35 (10-0) North College Hill 14
Out of the six undefeated teams from our area that entered round one, three of them are gone. Middletown, Carlisle and North College Hill had their perfect seasons come to a heartbreaking end. Only Eaton, Clinton Massie and Colerain remain unbeaten. After witnessing the impressive victory Colerain put up against Hamilton, the Cardinals look poised to run the table in a bid for another state championship. If you’re not ready to watch basketball and you still hunger for some good football, sink your teeth into one of these fine matchups being played in round two. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
