Monroe ended their 2010 season, just they way they started, with a win. Led by a group of seniors that refused to lose their final home game, Monroe defeated Bellbrook 41-31.
The two teams came into the game with identical 2-3 records in SWBL play and statistically they ended the game about as even as two teams can get, except for the all important category——–final points. Six Hornets recorded points during the game. The games first score game 1 minute and 3 seconds into the game when Monroe’s slashing sophomore, Chris Wilson, scored from six yards out. Jamey King’s PAT gave the Hornets a lead they would never relinquish. Devin King match Wilson’s six yard run with one of his own three minutes later, again it was Jamey King with the PAT giving the home team a 14-0 lead. Bellbrook cut into the Monroe lead with 12 seconds to play in the first quarter off a successful 29 yard field goal by Alex Oldham.

The second quarter saw both teams move the ball with no points until the final moments of the half when Bellbrook’s Steve Rasso scored on a 2 yard run. The Golden Eagles elected to go for 2 on the PAT attempt which was successful as Rasso passed to Vince Pappi. The two teams sprinted to their respective locker rooms, 14-11 Hornets.
Monroe was the only team to dent the scoreboard in the third quarter. Senior QB David Routson bulled into the end zone from one yard out with 7:06 to play in the third, the PAT by Senior Jamey King gave the Hornets a 21-11 lead going into the Hornets 4th and final quarter of the season. The two teams traded scores in an explosive and high scoring fourth quarter. A mere nine seconds into the 4th quarter again it was King adding six to the Hornets total, this time on a very well executed pass, catch and run. King slipped out of the backfield and took a 13-yard pass from Routson untouched into pay dirt. The PAT by Andrew Shaffer was good—Monroe 28 Bellbrook 11. Bellbrook answered one minute and 30 seconds later on a 46-yard pass from Kevin Crane to Thomas Crute-PAT by Joe Licher Monroe 28 Bellbrook 18. Back came the Hornets, Devin King rambled in from five yards out, Schaffer added the PAT Monroe 35 Bellbrook 18. Back comes Bellbrook, Luke Martin takes a Crane pass from ten yards out for another Golden Eagle score, Joe Orzel’s PAT was blocked Monroe 35 Bellbrook 24. Bellbrook’s defense forced the Hornets into a 3 and out, but on their ensuing drive the Hornets Travis Rice came through with a pick six from the Hornets 17 yard line, Schaffer’s PAT was no good, Monroe 41 Bellbrook 24 with 2:54 to play. Bellbrook’s Trey Schwieterman returned the Hornets kickoff 60 yards to the Hornets 40 and moments later Schweiterman caught a 10 yard TD pass from Crane to cut the Hornet lead back to 10, 41-31 with 2:08 to play. Out of time outs, Bellbrook tried their 4th on-side kick of the game, and this one, just like the other 3 was unsuccessful thanks to the Hornets GOOD-HANDS team and a large group of Monroe seniors were moments away from ringing the VICTORY bell on their final high school football game.
Monroe totaled 263 yards of total offense compared to 267 for Bellbrook. Monroe ended the year at 3-3 in the league and 6-4 overall in Coach Brett Stubbs first year as their Head Coach.
