With two games left in the regular season, Monroe has positioned itself for yet another trip to the postseason and its third Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division title in four years. Individually, Monroe running back Devin King has also positioned himself to make a run at the Hornets single-season rushing record.
King, a junior, has 1,256 yards this year and needs just 101 yards in the final two games to break the current single-season record of 1,357 set in 1986.
Last week King exploded for 259 yards and two TDs on 26 carries in a 35-22 win over Dixie.
As a team against the Greyhounds the Hornets rushed for 498 yards and had a total of 593 yards, which is a new school record.
This Friday things get turned up a notch with a road trip to defending SWBL Buckeye champ Waynesville (6-2) on the docket. Last year the Spartans handed Monroe its only league loss to date (in four years as a member).
